Pupate (verb)

To change from the larval stage to the pupal stage in the life cycle of an insect.

Origin:

From the latin pupa, meaning "doll" or "girl".

Examples:

1. The caterpillar will pupate before it emerges as a butterfly.
2. The maggots pupate in soil before they turn into flies.
3. The dragonfly nymph will pupate before it emerges as an adult dragonfly.
4. The mosquito larvae pupate in water before they turn into adults.
5. The bee larvae pupate in the wax cells of the hive before they turn into adult bees.
