Abort (verb)

To terminate a pregnancy before the fetus is viable, either naturally or by induced abortion.

Origin:

Middle english abourten, from latin abortus, past participle of aboriri to miscarry, from ab- + oriri to arise.

Examples:

1. She decided to abort the pregnancy.
2. The fetus had a genetic disorder, so they chose to abort.
3. The mother had an abortion due to medical complications.
4. The rocket had to be aborted after a malfunction.
