Astray (adverb)

Off the correct or intended course or direction; deviating from the right path or the norm.

Origin:

From the old english word "on streġe" meaning "on a wrong path".

Examples:

1. The hiker had gone astray and was lost in the woods.
2. The arrow had flown astray and missed the target.
3. The conversation had gone astray and was no longer relevant to the topic.
4. His thoughts had gone astray, and he was no longer paying attention.
