For a short time; briefly.

Origin:

Derived from the phrase 'a while' which was originally used in middle english.

Examples:

1. I'll be back in a while after I finish my errands.
2. She decided to stay in the park awhile and enjoy the warm sunshine.
3. Let's sit down and rest awhile before we continue on our hike.
4. He stopped to talk to her for awhile before continuing on his way.
5. The rain was coming down so hard that they had to wait in the car for awhile.
