The word bingo is derived from the name of a game that was first played in the early 20th century in the united states. it is said to have originated from the game called beano, which was played with beans, a board and numbers. the caller would call out a number, and players would cover that number on their board with a bean. when a player covered a line of numbers, they would yell "beano!" and the game became known as "bingo".
