Catnip

A perennial herb of the mint family, Nepeta cataria, whose leaves when bruised emit a strong odor that attracts and stimulates cats.
Origin:
From middle english catnep, catnepe, from old english catnæppe, from cat + neppe ("nep, a plant"); equivalent to cat + -nip.
Examples:
- The cat was attracted to the catnip plant in the garden.
- The cat rolled on the ground, rubbing its face in the catnip.
- Some cats will go crazy for catnip.
- Catnip can be used as a training aid for cats.
- Catnip can also be used as a repellent for other animals.
