Catnip (noun)

A perennial herb of the mint family, Nepeta cataria, whose leaves when bruised emit a strong odor that attracts and stimulates cats.

Origin:

From middle english catnep, catnepe, from old english catnæppe, from cat + neppe ("nep, a plant"); equivalent to cat +‎ -nip.
