Designed or made in such a way as to prevent children from accessing or using something, especially in a dangerous or harmful way.

Origin:

1940s: child + proof.

Examples:

1. The medicine cabinet is childproof to prevent the children from accessing the pills.
2. The house is childproofed with safety gates and locks on the doors.
3. Childproof caps are used to prevent children from opening bottles.
4. The outlet covers are childproof to prevent children from sticking their fingers in the sockets.
