Christening (noun)

A religious ceremony in which a child is given a name and typically also baptized as a member of a Christian church.

Origin:

From the word "christ" which refers to jesus christ and "ening" which refers to the verb "to name" or "to give a name".

Examples:

  1. The parents held a Christening ceremony for their new baby.
  2. The baby's grandparents were present at the Christening.
  3. Christening is a sacrament in the Christian Church.
  4. The baby's godparents were chosen to stand with the parents during the Christening ceremony.
  5. Christening is often held in church but it can also be held at home or any other location.
