A religious ceremony in which a child is given a name and typically also baptized as a member of a Christian church.
Origin:
From the word "christ" which refers to jesus christ and "ening" which refers to the verb "to name" or "to give a name".
Examples:
- The parents held a Christening ceremony for their new baby.
- The baby's grandparents were present at the Christening.
- Christening is a sacrament in the Christian Church.
- The baby's godparents were chosen to stand with the parents during the Christening ceremony.
- Christening is often held in church but it can also be held at home or any other location.
