Commence (verb)

1. To begin or start, especially formally or ceremonially.
2. To come into existence; to start to happen.
3. To start a course of action or a process.

Origin:

From old french comencier, from latin cominitiare ('to initiate').

Examples:

2. The construction work will commence next month.
3. The concert will commence with a performance by the choir.
