Convalesce (verb)

To recover one's health and strength gradually after an illness or injury.

Origin:

From the latin convalescere, from con- (together) and valescere (to grow stronger).

Examples:

1. After a serious illness, it can take months to convalesce.
2. She had to convalesce for a few months before returning to work.
3. The patient is convalescing well and is expected to make a full recovery.
4. His broken leg required him to convalesce for several weeks.
5. The soldier convalesced in the hospital before being discharged.
