A game or puzzle in which words are placed in a grid pattern, with other words being placed in the grid according to their intersecting letters.

Origin:

The term crossword originated in the early 20th century, it"s a combination of the words "cross" and "word" describing its format in which the words are arranged in a grid pattern with the letters intersecting at certain points.
