Deactivate (verb)

To make inactive, or to turn off or stop the activity of something.

Origin:

Formed from the prefix 'de-' meaning to undo or reverse and the verb 'activate' meaning to make active.

Examples:

1. The bomb squad deactivated the explosive device.
2. You can deactivate your account if you no longer want to use the service.
3. The scientist deactivated the virus to prevent its spread.
4. The alarm system will deactivate automatically once the code is entered.
5. To conserve energy, you should deactivate your electronics when they're not in use.
