Not containing caffeine.
Origin:
Short for decaffeinated, from the french décaféiné, past participle of décaféiner, from de- + caféine caffeine.
Examples:
- I'll have a decaf coffee, please.
- This decaf tea is perfect for a night time drink.
- I can't drink regular coffee, it keeps me up at night, so I always get decaf.
- I prefer decaf coffee, it doesn't make me feel jittery.
- Decaf is perfect for children, who are not supposed to consume caffeine.
