1. To deprive of human qualities or characteristics, such as empathy or dignity.
2. To treat people as if they are not human beings, often with brutal or inhumane attitudes or actions.

Origin:

From de- + humanize, "to make less human or less humane".

Examples:

1. The prisoners were dehumanized by being treated like animals.
2. The soldiers were dehumanized by being forced to commit atrocities.
3. The victims were dehumanized by being referred to as subhuman.
