A device worn over the ears to keep them warm in cold weather, typically consisting of a band that fits over the head and two cups covering the ears.
Origin:
The word "earmuff" first appeared in print in 1873, and is thought to have been derived from the phrase "ear muffler" which describes the function of the device. .
