Ectopic

Occurring in a place that is not normal or usual.
Origin:
Early 19th century: from greek ektōpios "out of place", from ek- "out" + tōpos "place".
Examples:
- An ectopic pregnancy is one that occurs outside the uterus.
- The patient was diagnosed with an ectopic kidney, which was situated on the opposite side to normal.
- The ectopic growth of cells can lead to cancer.
- Doctors had to remove the patient's ectopic appendix which was located in the pelvic area.
- The ectopic heartbeats were a symptom of a more serious underlying condition.
