To make something disappear, to remove or erase completely.
Origin:
Late middle english (in the sense "make (something) disappear"): from french effacer, from e- (from latin ex- "out") + face "face" (from latin facies).
Examples:
- He effaced the mistake with an eraser.
- The graffiti was effaced from the wall.
- The memory of the event was effaced from her mind.
- Effacing evidence is a criminal act.
