Used to express good wishes when parting from someone.
Origin:
Early 19th century: a reduced form of god be with ye.
Examples:
- Goodbye, it was nice seeing you again.
- She said goodbye to her friends and left the party.
- Goodbye, have a safe trip.
- He waved goodbye as the train pulled away.
- She whispered goodbye and closed the door behind her.
