Infarct

An area of dead tissue in a part of the body, usually as a result of an obstructed blood supply.
Origin:
Late 19th century, from latin infarctus, past participle of infarcire "to stuff, cram", from in- "into" + farcire "to cram".
Examples:
- The doctor found an infarct in his patient's heart and recommended surgery immediately.
- The stroke was caused by an infarct in the brain.
- The MRI showed multiple infarcts in the patient's lungs.
- The autopsy revealed a large infarct in the patient's liver.
- The infarct in his leg led to amputation because the dead tissue could not be saved.
