Extremely small or minute.

Origin:

Late 17th century: from late latin infinitesimalis, from infinitus "infinite" + -alis (as in fractional).

Examples:

1. The infinitesimal particles were too small to see.
2. The infinitesimal increase was not noticeable.
3. The infinitesimal change in temperature was insignificant.
4. The infinitesimal amount of time was not enough to complete the task.
5. The infinitesimal details were overlooked in the grand scheme of things.
