Irrigate

Supply (land) with water, typically by means of channels, in order to help growth of crops.
Origin:
Mid 17th century: from latin irrigat- "moistened", from the verb irrigare, from in- "into" + rigare "water".
Examples:
- Farmers irrigate their fields to make sure the crops have enough water to grow.
- The city has built a new irrigation system to help the farmers in the area.
- During the dry season, they have to irrigate the garden every day.
- The farmers use a drip irrigation system to conserve water and target specific plants.
- The irrigation canals were built to bring water from the river to the fields.
