A former monetary unit of Russia and certain other countries of the former Soviet Union, equal to one hundredth of a rouble.
Origin:
Russian kopeyka, from old east slavic kopějka, from kopě head.
Examples:

- I'm short a few kopecks for the bus fare.
- I remember when a kopeck was worth something.
- I received a kopeck as a change from my purchase.
