A platform or structure from which a rocket, spacecraft, or other vehicle can be launched into space or into the air.

1960s: from launch + pad.
Examples:
- The Kennedy Space Center is home to several launchpads used by NASA.
- The Space Shuttle was launched from the same launchpad for all of its missions.
- The Saturn V rocket was launched from Pad 39A.
- Launchpads must be strong and secure to withstand the forces of a launch.
- Some private companies are developing reusable launchpads for more cost-effective access to space.
