Origin:
Late 16th century (in the sense "halfway between good and bad"): from latin mediocris "of middle height, mediocre", from medius "middle" + -ocris (from greek hēkē "power"), influenced by french médiocre.
Examples:
- The food at the restaurant was mediocre at best.
- The performance was mediocre and forgettable.
- He is a mediocre student.
- I was expecting a great performance, but it was only mediocre.
- The movie was mediocre, it lacked the excitement and drama of the book.
