A cultural unit (such as a joke, video, image, phrase, etc.) that is passed on through imitation, often in a humorous or satirical way. It can also refer to the idea or behavior itself that is being passed on.
Origin:
Coined by richard dawkins in his 1976 book "the selfish gene". it comes from the greek word "mimeme" meaning "something imitated".
