Used to express sudden realization of a minor mistake or error.

Origin:

20th century: alteration of up, expressing surprise or apology.

Examples:

1. Oops, I made a mistake.
2. Oops, I spilled my drink.
3. Oops, I shouldn't have said that.
4. Oops, I forgot to turn off the stove.
5. Oops, I think I might have broken it.
