To exclude or shun (someone) from a group or society.

From french ostraciser, from greek ὀστρακίζω (ostrakizō, "to banish by voting with potsherds"), from ὄστραξ (ostrax, "oyster shell"), from ὄστρακον (ostrakon, "oyster shell") + -ίζω (-izō, "cause t.o")
