Ostracize (verb)

To exclude or shun (someone) from a group or society.

Origin:

From french ostraciser, from greek ὀστρακίζω (ostrakizō, "to banish by voting with potsherds"), from ὄστραξ (ostrax, "oyster shell"), from ὄστρακον (ostrakon, "oyster shell") + -ίζω (-izō, "cause t.o")

Examples:

1. She was ostracized by her classmates for being different.
2. The company ostracized the employee for not following company policy.
3. The community ostracized the family for their different beliefs.
