A temporary suspension of service, especially of electrical power or the internet.
Origin:
From out + age, probably influenced by outage in the sense "failure", from obsolete french autage ("an interruption"), from old french autage, autaige, from à ("to") + taige ("tim.e")
Examples:
- The power outage caused by the storm left many residents without electricity for several days.
- The internet outage caused difficulties for people trying to work from home.
- The company experienced an unexpected outage of its website.
- The telephone outage was caused by a problem with the network.
- The water outage was caused by a broken pipe.
