Overbite (noun)

A dental condition in which the upper front teeth extend over the lower front teeth, when the jaws are closed.

Origin:

Early 20th century, from over- + bite.

Examples:

1. An overbite is a common orthodontic problem.
2. The overbite was caused by thumb-sucking in childhood.
3. The overbite can be corrected with orthodontic treatment.
4. An overbite can cause issues with chewing and speaking.
5. An overbite is a malocclusion, or misalignment, of the front teeth.
