Overstretch (verb)

To stretch or extend oneself or one's resources beyond what is reasonable or sustainable, often resulting in a negative outcome.

Origin:

Formed from the prefix "over-" meaning "excess" or "beyond" and the root word "stretch" meaning "to extend or expand to a greater length or size", the word "overstretch" came into use in the early 20th century.
