Panfry

To cook food, usually small pieces of meat or fish, in a pan over moderate heat, typically using a small amount of oil or butter.
Origin:
Formed from the word "pan" meaning "a shallow cooking pot with a handle and a flat bottom" and the word "fry" meaning "to cook food in hot oil or fat", the word "panfry" came into use in the early 20th century.
