A soldier trained to jump out of an aircraft and parachute to the ground in order to enter into battle.
Origin:
Formed from the word "parachute" meaning "a device used to slow a person or object"s descent through the air" and the word "troop" meaning "a group of soldiers", the word "paratroop" came into use in the 20th century.
