Origin:
Late 16th century: from middle french plunet, from plonge "to dive", based on latin plumbum "lead" (a plummet being a weight used in plumbing).

- The temperature plummeted to below zero as the cold front moved in.
- The value of the currency plummeted, making imports unaffordable for many people.
