The quality of being pomposity, which is characterized by a pretentiousness and an excessive display of self-importance.
Origin:
Mid 17th century: from latin pomposus "having a parade", from pomum "apple" (with reference to the round shape of an apple); the sense "empty show or display" is first recorded in the late 17th century.
