An attempt to criticize or attack someone or something, especially in a casual or easy way.
Origin:
Early 19th century: from pot (i.e. head) + shot (i.e. shot taken at it).
Examples:
- The journalist took a potshot at the politician for his lack of experience.
- The comedian took a potshot at the celebrity for their recent scandal.
- He took a potshot at his opponent during the debate.
