Proud (adjective)

Old english prōd "having a high opinion of oneself", of germanic origin; related to dutch prijzen "to value, praise", and german preis "price, prize". the original sense was "having a high opinion of oneself", later "having a sense of one"s own worth", and now also "feeling pleasure or satisfaction as a result of one"s own achievements or those of someone with whom one is closely associated.
