- In poor condition as a result of age and neglect.
- Appearing haphazardly constructed and likely to collapse.
Origin:
Mid 18th century: from rams (as in rams" horns) + shackle "frame, shack".
Examples:
- The old house was ramshackle and in need of repairs.
- The car was a ramshackle old vehicle that barely ran.
- The ramshackle building was scheduled to be demolished.
- The town was filled with ramshackle buildings and rundown houses.
- The ramshackle fence was held together with wire and duct tape.
