2. To develop fully or to completion.

Origin:

Middle english ripen, from old english rīpan; akin to old high german rīban to become ripe.

Examples:

1. The fruit will ripen if left on the vine.
2. The plan will ripen with time.
3. The tomatoes ripened in the sun.
4. The idea needs to ripen before we can implement it.
5. The cheese will ripen with age.
