Seedy

Run-down and in poor condition, often in relation to a place or building.
Origin:
From old english sǣd, sǣde "seed". the word originally meant "full of seed", and so "fertile", but later took on the sense "shabby, run-down", as if the seediness were due to the abundance of seed (and thus neglect).
Examples:
- The seedy motel was in a dangerous part of town.
- The seedy bar was a hangout for criminals.
- The seedy neighborhood was full of rundown buildings.
- The seedy reputation of the area kept tourists away.
- The seedy appearance of the store made people avoid it.
