A wide-brimmed hat, typically made of straw, typically associated with Mexico and worn to protect the head and face from the sun.
Origin:
Mid 19th century: from spanish, literally 'shade hat', from sombra 'shade' + -rero, after paƱuelo 'handkerchief'.
