Somewhat (adverb)

1. To a certain extent; moderately.
2. In a certain degree or in a certain measure.

Origin:

From the old english word sum, meaning "some" or "a certain amount" and the word swa, meaning "so" or "in such a way".

Examples:

1. The weather was somewhat cold, but not unbearable.
2. He was somewhat tired after the long hike.
3. She was somewhat surprised by the news of the sudden change in plans.
4. The store was somewhat crowded, but not as bad as it usually is.
5. The food was somewhat bland, but still edible.
