Stagnation (noun)

  1. A state or situation in which there is little or no growth, development, or movement.
  2. A state in which a body of water or other liquid ceases to flow or move.

Late 16th century: from latin stagnatio(n-), from stagnare "be stagnant" (see stagnate).
