A person who hides themselves on a vehicle, typically a ship, in order to travel without paying or being detected.
Origin:
Late 16th century (as a verb in the sense "to pack away in a compact manner"): from middle dutch stouwen "to put in a compact heap" + weg "away".
Examples:
