Superego

In psychoanalytic theory, the part of the psyche that mediates between the demands of the id and the ego in order to satisfy the demands of the moral and ethical components of the personality.
Origin:
From the latin word "super-" meaning "over" and "ego" meaning "i". coined by sigmund freud in 1923.
Examples:
- The young man struggled to reconcile his superego with his desire to take revenge on the person who had wronged him.
- She had a strong superego that always made her feel guilty when she did something she knew was wrong.
