Supervise (verb)

  1. Oversee the progress or execution of (a task or activity).
  2. Be in charge of and responsible for the work of (a person or group).

Origin:

Early 17th century: from french superviser or latin supervis- "overseen", from the verb supervidere, from super- "over" + videre "see".
