Surly (adjective)

Bad-tempered and unfriendly; unfriendly and inclined to anger or resentment.

Origin:

Middle english (in the sense "stern, harsh"): from old french sur "over, above" + -ly.

Examples:

1. The surly customer refused to speak to the customer service representative.
2. The surly bartender refused to serve him another drink.
3. He was in a surly mood and didn't want to talk to anyone.
4. The surly bouncer wouldn't let us in the club.
