Tenon

A projecting piece of wood that is cut to fit into a corresponding mortise and thus join two pieces of wood together.
Origin:
From old french tenon, from tenir "to hold".
Examples:
- The table was held together with a series of tenons and mortises.
- The chair's legs were joined to the seat with a tenon.
- The tenon is inserted into the mortise to create a tight joint.
- Tenons are often used in traditional woodworking.
