Than
(conjunction)
Used to introduce the second element in a comparison of two things, the first of which is usually indicated by "than" or a verb such as "like" or "as".
Origin:
Old english ðān, ðonne, ðænne; related to old high german dān, dann, old norse þá, gothic þan.
Examples:
- He is taller than his brother.
- I would rather stay here than go there.
- I would rather eat pizza than sushi.
- She's stronger than she looks.
- He's smarter than he seems.
