An object or device whose name is not known or forgotten.

Origin:

It"s an informal word, not having any clear etymology, it"s often used as a placeholder name for something whose name is temporarily forgotten or not known.

Examples:

1. Can you pass me that thingy over there?
2. Do you know the name of this thingy?
3. I can't remember what this thingy is called.
4. I need to replace the batteries in that thingy.
5. That thingy on the table is a remote control.
