To cut or divide across or through something, especially in order to study it.
Origin:
Derived from the word "trans-" meaning across or through, and "-sect" which means to cut or divide.
Examples:
- The scientists transected the tree to study its growth rings.
- The researchers transected the coral reef to study the different species.
- The geologist transected the rock to study its structure.
- The ecologist transected the forest to study the biodiversity.
- The doctor transected the cadaver to study the anatomy.
